Intensive Drawing & Classical Oil Painting Methods

Over five 3-hour sessions, students will be set drawing exercises

The foundation course is 30 hours in total, split into two parts and runs one afternoon a week over a term of 10 weeks.

It is designed as an overview of drawing and classical oil painting techniques. It is a condensed overview so you gain the most information of the tools that will be most helpful to you to complete exercises to gain most benifit.

 

The  course is comprised of two elements of drawing and oil painting methods where you will be shown a step by step process to build on your observational skills and technique and build upon what you learned from the previous lesson.

During the drawing half of the course you will be covering the topics below. 

Drawing - 5 x 3 hour sessions

• Line drawing

• Positive and negative space.

• Light, medium and dark values-

• Drawing from images and still life plaster casts.

• Mediums - Pencil & charcoal

Classical Oil Painting Methods & Materials Course

The Oil painting element you will learn how to

• Prepare the canvas in ground,

• Build up an underpainting over the first three sessions.

• Learn how to mix pigment into oil paint, learn how to apply colour between layers of specialist glaze.
